Yeah, it's even modern and awesome to me, and I'm from 2005!
[And then he lets out his team. A Typhlosion who does not look happy, a Furret who goes to cuddle up to the warm flaring mane of said Typhlosion, a Trapinch who lets out a yawn, a smiling Snover, a semi-tired Kingler... oh, and a giant Onix, who looks like it just got beaten up and captured this morning. Because it did.]
These are my guys -- they're really strong, and stuff. I've been here a few months -- so they've gotten plenty of training, too!

Yeah, that's right! We've gotta train them up well, or they'll be losers and then you've gotta pay the other trainer, if it's a trainer battle.
So, what'd you get? You only start with one -- but you can catch others, too.
Knuckles -- I mean, the blue firey one was my starter, but it started off smaller and a lot different.

That's a pretty cool one... and I guess it suits you! It looks like a fighting-type. There's 17 different types... and a fighting-type will be great on the first few routes!

Well, they've got species names, but I like giving mine nicknames. Y'know, so people don't mistake mine for theirs, or something. [That backfired during the short period of time he knew Mario.]

If you go... over that way a bit, there's a route full of other wild Pokemon. That's where I first caught Mario -- but he looked different. He was a Sentret -- they're not the strongest, but they're good at protecting people from cocky cocks. And stuff.
