Yeah, it's a sport. But you don't do it -- in your bag, there should be a red-and-white ball. Inside is a Pokemon -- and you battle them with other wild ones, or against trained ones. I guess it'll be a bit hard to get used to, but fighting with fists isn't really allowed here.

Because it did.]
These are my guys -- they're really strong, and stuff. I've been here a few months -- so they've gotten plenty of training, too!

Well, they've got species names, but I like giving mine nicknames. Y'know, so people don't mistake mine for theirs, or something. [That backfired during the short period of time he knew Mario.]
